Team Management starts with you, the Boss. Reaching your goals and completing your projects all require focus and discipline. And you work to stay aware of your daily team progress.
Like my aunt used to say, “Everyone can make today a new beginning and give a start to a new ending.” [Note: She never said she was the first to say it.]
First. A Project Tracker. Develop a project tracker report. You will find a project more accessible to tackle when your team members’ assigned work gets organized. The project tracker should keep all informed and, at a glance, give the team a daily status of work progress toward their deadlines as it goes from start to finish. Prepare a simple chart type of report detailing the project name, the team member’s role, and job details for all to understand. Allow a place for notes to keep track of when and what the next steps are. Remember to give and take ideas, suggestions, changes, and or recognize those who have excelled in their duties and job performance. You will manage to stay on track no matter how much is on your plate.Second. Meeting Agenda. You now have a report designed to simplify and streamline your meetings. The plan describes each team member’s role and duty to come to the meetings prepared and ready to go under review by all. A member comes with action items listed from the previous meeting completed and or status update provided for all to measure. All work progress is studied and measured by the time allowed for completion. Your goal is to keep a record of crucial discussions and updates from all the team and keep the project on track.
Like my aunt used to say, “You can not manage what you do not measure. So, we look at what we do best and work to do better.”
Third. Project Budget. As the Boss, keeping track of the money is another big goal. You develop a budget for every project the company works on, and you have made sure all got documented. From the project start date to the project end date, the team works to measure the projected costs with the actual costs. The managers and members need to clearly understand the amount spent and how much of the budget remains. You can now study the final status. The review tells you what to inquire about, what problem to evaluate, and what action to decide on, and guides you to remember to study what effect your decision had on the issue and adjust accordingly.Fourth. And finally, if you do these three steps correctly, you ought to be able to decide whether your team can do the job. Do they stay focused on their goals? Do they work hard? Do you trust them, and do they trust you? Setbacks can happen, but they don’t mean you failed. Learn to stay in touch with the people that help you and are accountable for your progress. Team management is an idea where you and your team come together to work united to achieve a common goal. You, the leader, have worked to look after your team’s needs and satisfaction, which ensures better work performance, leading to profitable results.
Like my aunt used to say, “Give your team members what they want, remember it and give it back to them.”
